Pop of Color with Pillow Covers

I primarily use neutrals in my home decor.  Sand-colored walls, natural wood furnishings, and, because we have a family pet, leather furniture.  Though this natural, neutral palette works for us on a logistical
 level, I miss color!

In many decorating shows, I notice designers often use throw pillows to inject color, pattern, and texture.  I have tried several commercially produced throw pillows. Still, I've rarely been fully satisfied with any of them - either the fabric quality is poor, the pillow insert is synthetic, or the prints just don't meet my aesthetic.

Then I discovered pillow covers!
I purchased down pillow inserts in the sizes I wanted.  Then, I paired them with pillow covers.  I first bought some from Amazon, but I was often unsatisfied with the quality.   I turned to Etsy, where I found many great independent shops offering a wide selection of covers in various sizes, prints, and colors.  If you struggle with coordinating fabrics, I recommend you try ElemenoPillows.  This shop organizes its pillow covers by color and offers an array of coordinating prints and sizes.

Some of the pillows on our bed were purchased from ElemenoPillows.  Rather than choosing one color, I opted to use several colors that I matched with a handmade, pieced quilt I keep at the end of the bed.  I have purchased several from this shop and have been satisfied with both their quality and durability.

However, as an experienced sewist, I really wanted to make my own pillow covers.
I discovered that these envelope-style covers are not only quite easy to make, they can be made from repurposed fabrics
