Advent Calendar

Consider making a simple Advent calendar for Christmas.
Made from an inexpensive thrift store bulletin board, shipping tags, small nails, and 24 miniature ornaments.
This is a great holiday project you can do with your kids.  Let them add an ornament each day until Christmas Eve!

To complete this project you’ll need:

 cork board

shipping tags (24)

small nails (24)

marker

hammer

pencil

ruler

craft glue

Use the cork board as is, or cover it with plain cotton canvas ducking fabric.

Cut the cotton canvas fabric to about 1/3” larger all around than the cork.

Tuck all fabric edges under the corkboard frame.

Lay out 6 rows of 4 shipping tags to preview spacing.

Cut the shipping tags shorter if necessary.

Measure spacing and cut a spacing guide from scrap paper.  If you have a chalk line, consider using it.

Remove the cotton string from each tag.

Put a liberal amount of glue on the back of the tag.

Glue the tag in place.  It is best to write the numbers 1 - 24 on the tags before gluing them in place.

Insert a small nail into each shipping tag hole.

Complete the array of numbers.

Collect 24 miniature ornaments.  I love to sift through the vast selection of mismatched ornaments at my local thrift store.

Add an ornament every day as you count up to Christmas Eve!
